In 1974 Malando celebrated his 35th anniversary as orchestra leader. In the same year the Marinierskapel der Koninklijke Marine (Band of the Royal Dutch Navy) celebrated 25 years of cooperation with the Phonogram label. Both jubilees led to the plan of making an album together. And here is the result, "Going latin together". Both orchestras playing together without losing their own identity

In 1964 Arie Maasland (Malando) was send a few Japanese children's songs during his tour through this country, with the request to arrange them for his orchestra. He did so and since it was a succes during the Japanese concerts he brought the idea back home and started arranging Dutch children's songs in a similar way. By the end of 1965 the album was recorded and released. In 1993 it was re-released on cd.

Malando is one of the great mysteries of music. why should a Dutchman (real name Arie Maasland) who has never been to Argentina have for more than a quarter of a century led a tango and rumba orchestra that has achieved world fame, won a host of awards, and become more popular in Latin America than most "home-grown"musical products? Maybe its because his style is very recognisable immediately.

It is  South American music with a Dutch touch. 

 Malando introduced the so called "Continental-Tango" to the world..
